#5 Why We Crave Horror Movies-Steven King

I don't know if I agree 100% with Steven Kings thoughts, but with most its so very true. We are all insane to a certain level, we just hide it better. Obviously not all of us are are twisted as Steven Kings with his great thoughts, but that is why we have writers like him. Horror books/movies lets us feel like kids again and be at the edge of our seats, either in reading/watching a movie like he says its like a roller coaster ride. Also I agree that its mainly those of us 40-50, and under that enjoy the thrill. And hell for those of us that talk to ourselves (and you know your out there, hell I am one that talks to myself I just make a point not to answer myself too..lol) Also horror flicks are more black/white than grey included. Horror and comedy are two of my ultimate favorites. Most people do learn quickly about the correct emotions, but not all. Look around us today we have grown men shooting out theaters, and schools. This world today has gotten out of control. We need to limit the amount of anger showed to children these days to help lower the rate of children hurting one another.

#4 Malcom X Literacy Behind Bars

          I honestly had no idea Malcom X was imprisoned until I read this.  It seems he learned a lot about reading and writing while he was locked in.  Re-entering into anyworld a more edjucated man is amazing, but by the ability of choice.  Thats amazing he chose to be edjucated, he wanted to know how to read and write, and so he learned it.  Day in and day out by the grace of god and determination, Malcom X not only taught himslef but he taught himself well.  He is a great, well know and respected writer.  And who knew he only went to the 8th grade.  So smart, dedicated, and intelligent.

        This gives me insentive to keep going, and to know I can finish school, and become whatever I want. If this man can do it from a cell, I can do it from college. It also makes me realize I enjoy to read and enojoy learning.  If anything else with all these readings I can say little by little it forces us to look at and compare ourselves with the writers on multiple different levels.  Do I agree/disagree?  Am I like him/her?  Which is something I totally enjoy about reading and writing.

#3 Shitty 1st drafts

So the title in itself grabbed my attention, was a great eye catcher.  During the reading, I would have to agree, that very few writers can sit down in one sitting and finish their first/second/final drafts all in one.  I find that when I write my thoughts down, or record my brainstorming, it is almost like a first draft. This helps me because i get all the information I need out of my head and down on paper. Then once I've done that I can start on draft number 2, the adding or deleting.  Getting it all to look nice and make sense is the ending and final part.  Anne Lamott said it well when she said 2 things: really shitty shitty first drafts can later be an excellent final draft.  And when she freaked out everytime another review was up and ready.  Because we all freeze up, get scared, and worried that our writing wont be up to par, or that we may not make sense to others.  But we all get our papers in and she did everytime and hers apperently were spectacular.  Something Id like to read sometime, anyone of her books.  Self doubt wont help any.  Just believe in yourself, believe in your writing, and you can do it.

#2 Eternal Vigilance

Already in agreeance with Anatole Broyard.  "Most people read badly.  Even the good readers read badly. Im not talking about what they read, but how".  So im confident that most of that is true, painful but true.  Even for me, a person who enjoys reading can get very bored with reading.  Actually it took me 3-4 days, and several attempts at reading it before finishing it.  But once read and understood, I do agree with parts of what he says.  Like about its up to the reader to take interest, and to want to read the text.  I myself also catch myself buying books and acting like there too good or too new to touch/read/explore.  But truth has it, if we dont open and read the books/magazines/comics (whatever it maybe) How will we know if its good or not?  And how can we truly read a book without asking questions through out it.  Is this what the author meant?  Are things truly like this?  Any and all questions we may have about books or authors, we are actually asking ourselfs during our readings.  Even if we dont realize we are doing it.  Also I agree with every book has a voice. So like they say dont judge a book by its cover or there condition. :)

# 1 About me!

    Hello Barbi/fellow class members!!!  My name is Elise Yoder.  Im 26, going to be turning 27 February 14th (Valentines Day), 2013.  I am a single mother of two children.  I have a daughter age 7, and a son age 5.  They keep me busy and on my toes.  Also I work part time, and I am taking 9 credits (3/4 time). 
    I am divorced, and I have been for about 4 years.  I have been seeing my current boyfriend for 3 1/2 years.  Together we have four children, ages  4, 5, 6, and 7 (one girl/three boys). 
    I am the youngest of four.  I have all sisters ages 28, 31, and 34.  We try to stay in touch and visit as much as possible.  My father lives in Springfield, Oregon.  My mother passed December 25th, 2010.  Which was totally tough on me, she was my best friend.  She also lived in Springfield, Oregon.  Between both my parents, I have three aunts and three uncles.  
    Family is very important to me, as I am not as close with mine as I'd like.  If I have any control over it, my children will be very close with one another.  As well as, close to me and their in laws.
